Cruise Travelers that enjoy sightseeing will have to walk outside the Terminal, where you may find Horse Carriage Tours. However, as mentioned before, besides a couple of attractions within walking distance, you should be aware that there isn't much to sightsee close by. Considering the prices of Wi-Fi Internet onboard cruise ships, you may want to take advantage of the fact that there are a few places to get free Wi-Fi in Puerta Maya. Puerta Maya is the furthest port in Cozumel found on the southwestern side of the island nearly 5 miles away from San Miguel town.

You can find a variety of flora, fauna, flowers, birds, and even sea turtles. Visitors can also enjoy the Navigation Museum which is the old lighthouse keeper’s home.
Here, you can explore some historic landmarks and monuments, such as the Coral Reefs Monument, the Mexican War Memorial, the Birds Monument, and the Museum of Cozumel. Water sports, including banana boat rides and glass-bottom boats, as well as massages, are offered for an additional fee. The all-inclusive fee includes drinks, beach access, free WiFi, a pool, a hot tub, restrooms, outdoor showers, and more. During our Royal Caribbean cruise this winter, we decided to book a day at Nachi Cocom Beach Club and Water Sports Center. I loved this experience and would visit Nachi Cocom on our next cruise stop in Cozumel. Mr. Sanchos is a private beach club offering an all-inclusive experience.
It’s also common to tip hotel staff and taxi drivers for good service, with a small amount per day or ride being appropriate. Head toward town and about a mile down the road, you’ll come to a sign pointing out the beach and a non-descript staircase leading down to the water. There is a narrow beach along with a number of small trees offering some shade. The shore here is fairly rocky, so some water shoes are a good idea.
We recommend booking either at the airport or in advance online. The bus ride from Cancun to Playa del Carmen is about one hour. Just like you’ve seen on TV, you can explore Cozumel while cracking clues, solving mysteries, and playing adventurous games with fellow travelers. This competitive journey will take about 4.5 hours and there is a post-race award ceremony that follows.
Unless you do some research in advance, you generally won’t be told which of the cruise terminals you are docking at – just that you are visiting Cozumel. However, there are many excursions, beautiful beaches, duty-free shops, and beach clubs right there, so you don’t have to leave the island. Cozumel is located across from Playa Del Carmen and Akumal and is in the Caribbean Sea. For instance, many a seasoned cruiser will swear that Carnival cruise ships dock exclusively at the Puerta Maya and that Royal Caribbean (and Celebrity ships) only dock at the International Cruise Terminal. As much as this is true (most of the time), the Editor has been on Carnival ships docking at the International Terminal.
Cozumel is known as a shopper's paradise (or nightmare for many a husband). Like every else in the Caribbean, jewelry and watches are predominant. However, like in Costa Maya, you will find that tobacco and spirits have the absolute best prices anywhere in the Caribbean (only comparable with St. Martin). Undoubtedly the best cruise port for shopping in the Western Caribbean, Cozumel has an amazing number of shops and in Puerta Maya Terminal you will find almost all the top names usually found in the Caribbean. The Puerta Maya Terminal is known for its bars, grills and restaurants. For a coffee and quick bite, the Puerta Maya has the best coffee shop in Mexico - Punta Del Cielo.
The cost is $80 per person, and the tours typically start at 11am, perfect for cruise passengers. If you love the idea of scuba diving but you want something a bit simpler, this might be the Cozumel activity for you. You simply “wear” a sort of “sub suit” that allows you to go 20 feet below the water and have unobstructed views of the marine life. And with Cozumel’s reputation for great reefs and pristine coral, this is a great thing to do while cruising to this beautiful island.

What’s the number one thing you should do when visiting Cozumel? If you’re looking to enjoy a full beach/pool day, there are a ton of beach clubs from which to choose. You’ll probably dock here if you’re cruising with Royal Caribbean or Celebrity. Leaving the ship, kiosks and vendors will filter you through the Punta Langosta Mall full of shops and restaurants.

Always make sure, when booked with Independent Local Operators, to clearly establish the meeting point. Most probably, in the large covered area just before exiting the terminal where you will also find taxis and the cruise Shorex buses. For other minor health issues, there a couple of Pharmacies in the Puerta Maya Terminal and also nearby outside the terminal within walking distance.
All cruise lines (and private operators) offer shore excursions and tours in Cozumel. Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean offer as many 85 shore excursions. Oceania Cruises organizes 25 shore excursions, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) offers 42 excursions and Princess has 48 excursions available. There are good reasons why Cozumel is such a popular cruise port. To start with, the tropical weather is just fabulous and very reliable with 80°F (27° C) average annual temperature. But its main attraction is the unmatched clarity of the ocean waters that surround the island.
